This South African trio has revolutionised the music scene over the last year. Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek mix rap, dance music, roots and a unique look that could only have emerged from the complex cultural breeding ground of their home city of Cape Town. The kings of "zef" rhyme Afrikaans mixed with English, over productions halfway between rave and the ghetto, with an iconography that is a combination of sex, street violence and surreal humour. They invaded the Internet (or to use their terminology, the interweb) in just a few months with extremely original videos that made them into an viral phenomenon unprecedented in South Africa. While their debut album, the incredible “$o$”, has captivated millions of listeners in a very short time, it is in their live show where Die Antwoord deploy their entire sonic and visual arsenal.
