Despite his work being spread across a handful of EPs and on compilations released on Eglo, R2 and Planet Mu, Sam Shepherd is all over the place. Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs are keeping a very close eye, and his sound explores the meeting point between the smooth side of dubstep, abstract beats, cosmic house and boogie with a synthetic touch. Before trying to produce electronica tracks in his bedroom, Shepherd was trained in classical music, first studying classical piano while singing in the Manchester Cathedral Choir at the same time, before he ended up immersing himself in jazz styles.
